by: James A. Barnes
They’re the things that go bump in the night, the stuff of your nightmares, the noise in the dark.
In no specific order, check out our list of the Top 10 Scariest Movie Monsters, and (re)live some of your deepest fears !!
Cthulhu - Underwater
Underwater takes full advantage of the Cthulhu mythos and gives audiences a true sense of claustrophobia as the crew is stuck 7 miles underwater with Cthulhu and its offspring stalking the survivors.

Death Angels - A Quiet Place Franchise
The Death Angels are absolutely terrifying. They have superhuman speed, superhuman strength, enhanced hearing, and razor-sharp claws that will shred you to pieces.

Xenomorphs - Alien Franchise
The Xenomorph is one of the deadliest creatures on this list. Xenomorphs can grow to the size of a full adult within hours, they multiply incredibly fast, they’re strong, highly intelligent, and have acid for blood which is the most badass defense mechanism.
The Xenomorph’s physical form can vary depending on the host the embryo is implanted into. The Human phenotype is generally around 7–9 feet tall and around 400-600 pounds.
Xenomorph Queens are usually twice the size of normal Xenos, but some Queens have grown as tall as 98 feet tall (30 meters).

The Creeper - Jeepers Creepers Franchise
The Creeper haunted my dreams for days after I saw the first “Jeepers Creepers” film. It’s tens of thousands of years old and surfaces every 23rd spring to feast on human flesh for 23 days. The Creeper usually wears a tattered, 19th-century duster, wide-brimmed Stetson, and tattered trousers to pass for human.
The Creeper is strong, It can fly ridiculously fast, has razor-sharp teeth and claws, can regenerate any lost limbs by eating the required body parts from humans, and has forged weapons out of human bones and other body parts to help it hunt its prey.

Mutated Bear - Annihilation
The mutated bear from “Annihilation” is one of the creepiest creatures I’ve ever seen on film. It has the size and power of an adult bear and wales like a human screaming in agony. Once you’ve seen it and heard it, it’s a monster you’ll never be able to get out of your head.
Streaming on Paramount+ | FXNOW | VOD
Bioraptors - Pitch Black
“Pitch Black” is one of my favorite movies of all time and the Bio-Raptors are a huge reason why. They’re fast, they can fly, they have razor-sharp teeth and claws, and their hunger is so insatiable, that they’ll even eat each other.
The Bioraptors are presumed to be native to the planet M6-117 in the M-344-G System and are responsible for the extinction of most life on the planet.
Available on VOD
The Crawlers - The Descent
“The Descent” revealed to me just how claustrophobic I am, and then the addition of The Crawlers sent me over the edge. The humanoid creatures feed on the flesh of anything they can get their hands on and have perfectly adapted to the environment of this underground cave system.
Streaming on Amazon Prime Video | VOD
The Thing - The Thing
The scariest part about this shape-shifting monster is the fact that it can assimilate and replicate any of its victims and can radically alter form. The Thing also has the ability to regenerate itself after massive amounts of damage and is invulnerable to most conventional attacks.
Streaming on Starz | VOD
Clover - Cloverfield
This monster is a 240-300 foot high quadruped with a long tri-fork finned tail. Each of its feet is 30-40 feet in length and its skin can withstand the force of most military ordinances. If that wasn’t enough to terrify you, the creature also appeared with about 2000 smaller parasites that descended into buildings and subways to hunt and devour humans.
Streaming on HBO Max | AMC+ | VOD
Calvin - Life (2017)
“Life” is a criminally underrated film and Calvin is a near-unstoppable creature that wants to consume all “Life” in its path.
It has a high resistance to extreme temperatures, superhuman strength, accelerated growth, superhuman-level intelligence, absorption, and the ability to transform its cells into any type of cell.
