by: Bryce L. Jackson
The team at Treyarch are now on deck with the next entry in the Call of Duty series. They opened the event remembering their nearly decade-long journey of making fun games for fans while pushing the envelope on gameplay. After all the reflection, we learn that BO4 will take place in the space of time between BO2 and BO3 and saw their first trailer of what we can expect.
After the Multiplayer trailer reveal, Lord David Vonderhaar and Dan Bunting had a break down of what to expect in BO4 multiplayer. First off, no boosters or wall running, a continuous community complaint and concern due to fatigue of 3D movements. Next up was the weapons where they have essentially made weapon effects more noticeable and more customizable than ever before by unlocking the attachment selections different gun styles can have. Specialists are also back, some fans will already know (Firestrike and Seraph were showcased) and some new specialists (Crash, a medic and Recon, a situational awareness specialist) bringing unique abilities that can change the game in a user's or team's favor. Speaking of new abilities, the system of automatic health regeneration has been done away with and replaced with a med kit system players will used to manually. The developers announced that each specialist will have specific story missions to flush out the backgrounds of each character. Finally, they revealed that a Black Ops 2 favorite "League Play" will be back as the COD competitive and Path to Pro mode. Next up was the Lead Writer Craig Houston and Senior Executive Producer Jason Blundell for COD: Zombies debuting not 1, not 2, but 3 Day one Zombies story modes. The First was "IX" with 4 main characters inhaling some sort of mystical vapor they traveled back to Roman Colosseum where captured individuals are transformed into zombies and slaughter the first wave of gladiators before the gate opens for the playable characters. The second takes place on a cruise ship where the same 4 characters are trying to execute a heist to steal an artifact. This artifact gets into the hands of the antagonist and emits a back smoke which turns all of the passengers into zombies and the main characters must escape. The final announcement was the reveal of "Blood of the Dead" a fan favorite remaster of "Mob of the Dead" from Black Ops 2.
COD Zombies: IX (Nine)
COD Zombies: Voyage of Despair
COD Zombies: Blood of the Dead
If that wasn't enough, to end the presentation, we got a glimpse into Call of Duty's entry into the Battle Royale space. Dubbed "Blackout" and flaunted as a fast-paced mode with the polished mechanics, characters and weapons (from Zombies as well) that fans are familiar with from across the decade of Black Ops games. The Battle Royale mode is said to be a mashup of iconic maps from the Black Ops series with vehicles for land sea and air.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be released on October 12th, 2018.
