Superior Iron Man Comic Review
Tony Stark. We all love him, right? I mean as one of Marvels poster boys how can you not? I mean he can come off as a know it all with his huge ego. But its Tony Stark the rich, genius, playboy who just so happens to own an iron suit. What’s not to love? What if I told you there was a story in which we get to see Tony Stark use the things we love and adore him for anything but good? Well, I would like to suggest that you read Superior Iron Man Written by Tom Taylor.
In this version of Iron Man, we get to see Tony Stark in more of a villainous role. I bet you are wondering how he became this way, well in 2014 Marvel had a run of comics called Axis. In this series of issues, we get to see most of Marvels heroes in different roles in which they are evil. In the end all the characters are turned back into their normal heroic selves. All of them but of course Tony Stark, who shielded himself from the spell which normalized all the other characters. Sounds interesting right? How could it get any better? The suit in which Tony Stark is wearing is … a symbiote. You read that correctly Tony Stark, Iron Man, is not only an evil version of himself he is also merged with a symbiote. This comic run is insane!
There are so many things that are unique in this comic. Let’s start with the setting. Instead of being set in New York we find ourselves all the way on the west coast in San Francisco. It gives an entirely different feel from what we are used to. With a more so villainous playboy in Tony Stark seeing his basking in the sun in pools and by the beach just felt right. Seeing Tony in sunny California was one thing. Seeing the attorney Matt Murdock aka Daredevil outside of Hell’s Kitchen was another. Not only is he out of his element, in issue #3 he is briefly no longer blind!
I don’t want to get into too many spoilers but as you can see I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I think anyone who is a fan of Iron Man should read this and it’s only nine issues. How can you pass this up?
