Fox Delays 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' And Announces 'Gambit' Release Date
by. James A. Barnes
Deadline reports that “X-Men Dark Phoenix” will now be released on June 7, 2019, this news comes in one day after the first official trailer and poster that revealed the film would be released on February 14, 2019. “Alita: Battle Angel” has also shifting release dates moving from it’s December 2019 release date, to February 14, 2019.
Fox has also announced that the long awaited “Gambit” movie now has an official release date, “Gambit” will be released on March 13, 2020. Fox also has plans to release a PG-13 version on “Deadpool 2” in theaters. I really hope that this re-release will be Deadpool making fun of what a PG-13 version would look like.
These release date changes may not be a bad thing, as a matter of fact this is a great opportunity to give their films chances to make more money. “Alita: Battle Angel” was originally going to be released on December 21, 2018, opening alongside “BumbleBee”, “Aquaman”, “Holmes & Watson”, and “Welcome To Marwen”. I think Fox finally realized that that their film would have been buried in the sea of these other films and changing the release date was the only option to maximize on the film’s opening weekend, and overall profit.
With “Alita: Battle Angel” opening on February 14, 2018, the film won’t have that much competition, and it will have a much better chance of financial success. In my opinion, “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” should be a summer blockbuster and with this new June release date, the film is finally being released were it belongs.
Now let’s talk about the “Gambit” movie, “Gambit” has shifted release dates, and have lost directors and writers multiple times over the years and to me, this is just an announcement to try to put our minds at ease. I honestly don’t think that this movie will ever happen at Fox and if this film isn’t released before Disney officially takes over, then it definitely won’t happen. Gambit is one of my favorite X-Men, but he works better as the wild card of the team. I don’t think a standalone Gamit movie would be interesting, especially if it doesn’t include the X-Men.
