Ben Affleck, Matt Damon Teaming Up With Fox For McDonalds Monopoly Scheme Movie.
by: James A. Barnes
Deadline reports that Fox is developing a movie based on “How an Ex-Cop Rigged McDonald’s Monopoly Game and Stole Millions”. The film is set to star Matt Damon in the lead role and will be directed by Ben Affleck.
Fox won the movie rights to Jeff Maysh’s true-crime story, recently published in the Daily Beast, that told the story of how an ex-cop rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game in 2001, and allegedly stole millions of dollars from the company.
The story describers how Michael Hoover claimed he won a $1 million dollar grand prize after collecting Monopoly pieces and a camera crew was dispatched to his home to report on the story. During the interview the crew noticed several inconsistencies in Hoover's story and suspected that he was a part of a major criminal conspiracy to defraud the fast-food chain. It was later revealed that the men behind the cameras were two undercover FBI agents investing the so called grand prize winner.
'Deadpool' writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have been tapped to pen the script while Affleck and Damon will produce the film under their Pearl Street production company.
