THR reports that Sony Pictures has finally given the green light to a sequel to "Zombieland" after 10 years.
The original "Zombieland" premiered in theaters in October of 2009 and grossed over $100 million at the worldwide box office on a $23 million dollar production budget. It was directed by Ruben Fleischer and starred Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, and Jessie Eisenberg.
"Zombieland" was a horror-comedy movie that follows four strangers that meet and eventually bond amid a post-apocalyptic zombie outbreak. Eisenberg portrays a geeky survivor named Columbus, Harrelson as Tallahassee and Stone and Breslin are sisters named Wichita and Little Rock.
The writer of "Zombieland", Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have found great success over the years including the incredibly popular Deadpool franchise and the two will return to write the untitled Zombieland sequel.
The sequel will take the characters from the White House to the American heartland as they face off against new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first "Zombieland", as well as some new human survivors. But, most of all, according to the studio, they have to face the growing pains of their snarky, makeshift family.
