The Black Phone Movie Review

by: James A. Barnes

“The Black Phone” sees the return of Scott Derrickson teaming up Ethan Hawke after ‘Sinister’ and the film didn’t disappoint. I loved the script, it’s perfectly paced, has incredible sound design, and I loved the performances from the entire cast.

It was great to watch Finny’s (Mason Thames) journey from being too scared to stand up for himself and his loved ones, to finding the strength to not only survive his abductor but to get justice and revenge for the kids that were taken before him.

Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) was one of the biggest highlights of the film for me and stole every scene she was in. She’s funny, strong, brave, and didn’t let anything get in her way of finding her brother.

Ethan Hawke continues to prove that he’s one of the best actors working today and he is absolutely terrifying as The Grabber.
