Square Enix Doubles Up on Upcoming Title Delays

By: Bryce L. Jackson

Square Enix announced not one, but two delays for upcoming games scheduled to be released in 2020. The delays of Final Fantasy VII REMAKE and Marvel’s Avengers were announced concurrently via Square Enix’s Twitter. Final Fantasy VII REMAKE is delayed from March 3rd to April 10th, 2020, taking an additional month to polish a highly anticipated game. Producer Yoshinori Kitase posted the following statement on the Final Fantasy VII REMAKE’s Twitter.

Crystal Dynamics, a studio under Square Enix, will delay Marvel’s Avengers from May 15th to September 4th, 2020, a considerable delay for the game. With the game being single-player and also multiplayer co-op, there may be more game elements that the developers want to make sure are ready for launch, thus needing the extended delay. Studio Co-Heads at Crystal Dynamics Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg wrote and posted their statement of the delay on the Marvel’s Avengers game’s Twitter explaining the reasoning behind the delay.

The announcement of both delays was met with disappointment on social media, more so the FFVII REMAKE because of the connection that fans of the franchise have to the game and the increasing hype for the remake from teaser videos of the new battle mechanics. After initial reactions of disappointment fans of each game also expressed patience and understanding of the delays and conveyed those feelings to the developers.
