WarnerMedia announces a new venture in the streaming market by launching a third service called HBO Max. This service aims to host network content initially or currently under the WarnerMedia banner which includes TV channels like TNT, The CW, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, CNN, truTV, CrunchyRoll, among many others.
In preparation for the move, WarnerMedia has begun acquiring or reacquiring rights to shows, the largest of which is “Friends” from Netflix and other soon-to-be streaming competitors. HBO Max will also feature “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and Pretty Little Liars” according to a press release via Variety. HBO Max has also signed Gregg Berlanti from The CW’s Arrowverse shows and Reese Witherspoon to create/produce original movies. In total, HBO Max aims to host over 10,000 hours of content when it launches in early 2020.
As of writing, WarnerMedia has not revealed pricing for the service. HBO NOW is currently priced at $15/month so it’s likely that HBO Max will be priced a bit more.
