Best Selling Games of 2018

2018 was a tremendous year for video games as many games received boisterous reviews, graphics continue to blow away expectations, records were broken, Esports increased its notoriety, and showing that single-player games aren’t dying.

In terms of sales, gamers showed that they will mobilize and buy great games, whether they are huge franchises, or new IPs. Here is a list of the Top 10 Best-Selling games of 2018.

#10: Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)

Units Sold: 2.57 Million

Amazing gameplay, killer soundtrack, impressive visuals, wide generational appeal, its not a surprise that Super Mario Odyssey continues to sell copies.


#9 - NBA 2K19

Unit Solds: 3 Million

The NBA is a popular league worldwide and the appeal to play as Lebron James, Stephen Curry, and Giannis Antentekoumpo carries with it.


#8 - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

Units Sold: 3.3 Million

The go-to party game for all those Switch users that either have family game nights or groups of friends that settle arguments on Rainbow Road. Or both.


#7: Monster Hunter: World

Units Sold: 5.36 Million

The Monster Hunter franchise was more known as a Japanese title but was massively popular despite the limitation. Word of mouth allowed it to gain traction over time in the West which lead to its massive reception of Monster Hunter World earlier this year.


#6: God of War

Units Sold: 5.47

After a long hiatus, a new setting, a gripping story, and a change in gameplay mechanics saw fans rush to see what new adventure Kratos would go on, now with his own son to care for.


#5: Far Cry 5

Units Sold: 5.48 Million

Ubisoft went with a bold with uprooting “Far Cry” from its exotic locations of the past and setting it in rural Montana, but an overhaul in gameplay, impressive visuals, and a good story made enough impressions to land Far Cry this high on the list.


#4: Marvel’s Spider-Man

Units Sold: 6.59 Million

Fans have been waiting for a good Spider-Man game since the Playstation 2 game. Fans were not disappointed as the game hooked sweaties as well as comic noobs with its smooth web-slinging, cool suits, and great story.


#3: FIFA 19

Units Sold: 8.6 Million

It’s not called “The World’s game for nothing as FIFA sold 5 million on PS4 worldwide. Surprisingly, this is actually a down year for the franchise.


#2: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Units Sold: 9.87 Million

The Call of Duty franchise made a bold decision to exclude a story campaign for the first time in franchise history. They managed to still sell a huge amount of copies behind the noteriety of the Black Ops sub-franchise and the polished Blackout battle royal game mode.


#1: Red Dead Redemption II

Units Sold: 13.8 Million

Arguably the most anticipated game of the entire year, it only took about a month to reach the top of this list. Rockstar Games built upon the fandom for the Red Dead series and traversed “prequel-itis” expertly by telling an engaging story with memorable characters and creating a dense and rich environment.
